We think of tableware as sculptural objects to eat out of. Our design philosophy is rooted in traditional craftsmanship yet modern, combining time-honored techniques with enduring quality, functionality, and a contemporary design aesthetic.
Inspired by the belief that surrounding ourselves with beautiful and meaningful objects can positively impact our daily lives, our brand ethos celebrates timeless traditions, slow design, the art of setting the table, and intentional living.
Currently based in New York City, Piamundo maintains a global outlook.
Piamundo works on limited-edition collections, one-of-a-kind pieces, and commissioned projects.
“When we put intention and creativity into our table setting, we are inspired to be present with our meal and eat more mindfully. The vessels that hold our food elevate our experience, making ordinary moments extraordinary.”
Piamundo was founded in 2016 by Kathrin Schmidiger Torres, a classically trained photographer, to connect cultures through responsible, beautiful handcrafted products featuring traditional Mexican craftsmanship and enduring quality inherent in her Swiss background.
Inspired by Mexico's rich cultural story, diverse artistic expressions, and devotion to preserving long-celebrated traditions, Kathrin’s mission is to connect these values to the modern world while driving cross-cultural collaborations between different generations, designers, and artisans.
Behind Piamundo, Kathrin collaborates with interior designers, architects, chefs, restaurants, and boutique hotels, among others, curating spaces with unique meaningful design objects of rich heritage.
